Playgun was a 1992 grey American Quarter Horse stallion by Freckles Playboy and out of Miss Silver Pistol, a daughter of Doc's Hickory. His pedigree brought together two influential cutting bloodlines, combining the Freckles Playboy family with the proven Doc Bar and Chickasha breeding of his maternal line. Bred in Texas, Playgun developed into an accomplished cutting competitor before establishing an enduring influence on the American performance horse industry. Shown by Jody Galyean, Playgun earned US$183,538 in reported QData lifetime earnings, with victories including the Augusta Four-Year-Old Open and Non-Pro Futurities, Steamboat Springs Open Derby, Bonanza Non-Pro Derby and El Cid Open Classic. He was the 1995 AQHA High Point Junior Cutting Champion and earned 24 AQHA cutting points and an Open Performance Register of Merit. His breeding record extended well beyond his own competitive achievements. As of October 2026, QData recorded 1,551 AQHA foals, 565 money-earning offspring and US$10,762,255 in progeny earnings. His notable offspring include Mr Beamon, Peppy Plays For Cash, PG Heavily Armed and Watch Me Whip, with descendants achieving success across cutting, reined cow horse, roping and ranch disciplines. His daughters have also established a substantial record as producers, extending his influence into subsequent generations. Playgun died in December 2015, but his breeding legacy continues through his offspring and descendants.
