Shawne Bug Leo is an American Quarter Horse stallion whose influence has been established primarily through his exceptional record as a sire of barrel racing horses. Foaled in 1998, the sorrel stallion is by Shawne Bug and out of Countess Edith, a daughter of Thoroughbred sire Count Giacomo, combining established Quarter Horse speed bloodlines with Thoroughbred influence through his maternal pedigree. Although Shawne Bug Leo had only a brief racing career himself, his greatest contribution has come through his progeny. His offspring have accumulated approximately $2.88 million in recorded QData earnings, with the overwhelming majority earned in barrel racing. His leading performers include Heza Bug Leo, NB Ladybird, Shawnee Ta Fame, Cajun Chrome, Sipping On Firewater and Jipped N Shawnee, establishing Shawne Bug Leo as a proven source of barrel racing performance across multiple generations. His influence has continued well beyond his first foal crops, with progeny remaining competitive in major barrel racing and incentive programs. The success of his offspring when crossed with mares from prominent barrel families including Frenchmans Guy and Dash Ta Fame further demonstrates his value as an outcross within modern barrel breeding programs. Shawne Bug Leo passed in 2025, however his progeny are eligible for an extensive range of barrel racing incentive programs including Pink Buckle, Ruby Buckle, Riata Buckle, Future Fortunes, Breeders Challenge and Royal Crown.
