Slick By Design was a 2007 black AQHA stallion by Designer Red and out of Dreams Of Blue, by Dream On Dancer. Bred by Allene Tatom and owned by Jason Martin and Charlie Cole of Highpoint Performance Horses, he developed from an exceptional barrel racing athlete into one of the most influential barrel racing sires of his generation. He earned more than US$643,000 during his performance career, competing at the National Finals Rodeo in 2013, 2015 and 2016 with Michele McLeod, before returning to the NFR with Stevi Hillman in 2018. His achievements included the 2012 AQHA World Championship in Junior Barrel Racing, numerous professional rodeo championships and multiple NFR round wins. His 13.48-second run at the 2013 NFR was, at the time, the fastest NFR time recorded by a stallion. Barrel Horse News Slick By Design subsequently established an exceptional breeding legacy. QData now reports more than US$13.1 million in progeny earnings, with his offspring succeeding across professional rodeo, futurity and incentive competition. His influence extends internationally through major breeding incentive programs including Pink Buckle, Ruby Buckle, Royal Crown, Breeders Challenge and Future Fortunes, together with numerous regional programs and the Australian Barrel Horse Association (ABHA) incentive program. His extensive progeny record has established him among the leading barrel racing sires of his era. Following his death in October 2025, Slick By Design's breeding legacy continues through stored frozen semen and ICSI. His breeding program is managed through Highpoint Performance Horses in Pilot Point, Texas, with Christi Christensen as breeding manager and frozen semen distributed through Select Breeders Southwest. He is 6 Panel Negative, with negative results reported for HYPP, HERDA, GBED, PSSM1, MH and IMM/MYHM.
