Overview

Topsail Whiz is a 1987 chestnut AQHA stallion (AQHA #2675816 / NRHA #500794), bred by Tom and Susan McBeath of Union, Mississippi, who sold the dam in foal to Bob Loomis. By NRHA Hall of Fame sire Topsail Cody and out of the Cee Red mare Jeanie Whiz Bar, he was foaled on the Loomis ranch at Marietta, Oklahoma, and stood 14.1 hands. He died on 1 June 2009. His own show record was brief but placed at the top level of NRHA competition, headlined by a third-place finish in the 1990 NRHA Open Futurity and the 1991 Lazy E Classic Level 4 Open Championship, closing his career with $49,865 in NRHA lifetime earnings. His lasting influence, however, came as a sire. Topsail Whiz sired 1,543 registered Quarter Horses and was the leading NRHA sire every year from 2002 through 2009; in 2018 he became the first NRHA $12 Million Sire. His progeny include The Great Whiz, Easy Otie Whiz, Whizkey N Diamonds, Dun It For Whizkey and Smoking Whiz, and collectively earned eight AQHA open world championships alongside seven NRHA Open Futurity champions and four NRHA Open Derby champions. He remains a significant broodmare sire and was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2022.
